Why are Americans so bothered about Prince William and Kate Middleton getting married?

They fought the British empire to free themselves from Britain and abolish the monarch in favor of a republic and a president. Now Prince William and Kate are getting married they are all so happy about it. I seen the news yesterday and there were Americans saying "We don't have royalty so we stand by and admire the British monarch and the whole fantasy side of it" So, why the hell are they so bothered about royalty now? Why don't they re-instate the royals as their monarch too? Hell why don't they just have her, most of us don't want her anyway.
