What to do with dog poop after picking it up?

I know it sounds gross, but what do other people do after they have picked up their dogs poop? We don't want to stick up our garage by having it sit there, so after picking it up we put the bags under our front porch until garbage day when we pick up all the bags and put it in the trash for pickup. This is okay in the winter, but summer it can get pretty stinky, not to mention that everyone can see these bright bags laying there -- what do you most other people do?
